New European research projects |

IBBT-IBCN-UGent collaborates in 7 new research projects within the European 7th framework programme (call 4).3 Integrated Projects fit within the topic “The Network of the Future”: OASE on ultra-high capacity multilayer transport networks, STRONGEST on multi-terabit Next-Generation Optical Network Architectures, and GEYSER on Optical Networks and dynamic Any-IT resource provisioning. Within “Networked Media and 3D Internet” IBBT-IBCN-UGent participates in the STREP
(smaller, more focussed project) OCEAN on open content delivery framework. Finally, IBBT-IBCN-UGent is lead partner in the Coordination and Support action OSIRIS, which looks at strategies for open and sustainable ICT research infrastructures. These projects are running for 2 to 3 years.
For the 5th call of FP7, currently in the negotiation phase, IBBT-IBCN-UGent is invited to the negotiations for 4 STREPS, 3 IPs, and 1 Network of Excellence. These projects fit within the topics: “Future Internet experimental facility and experimentally-driven research”, “The Network of the Future”, and “The Network of the Future & ICT for Energy Efficiency”.

With Digimeter IBBT iLab.o wishes to look into the ‘demand-side’ of media use in Flanders. What kind of media do the Flemish people have at their disposal and how do they use them? To obtain this information, iLab.o questions the Flemish people twice a year, preferably in their natural habitat (on the internet, at the local market, in a pub…). The 2009 questionnaire resulted in some very surprising answers, totally rejecting some of the clichés of media
usage. During this Friday Food panel managers Koen Vervoort and Tim Valaert will give you a fascinating insight in the Digimeter market research and will also tell you how you can benefit from it.

5 March 2010 – Closing event NFC Voucher @ IBBT - COSIC - K.U. Leuven
Are you using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology? Interested in learning more about the different aspects of this new technology? Want to see how we will use our meal vouchers within a couple of years? Then this event is not to be missed! This IBBT project, conducted with leading players in the payment industry Clear2Pay/Integri and KeyWare, analyzed the viability of NFC-based vouchers as an alternative for the popular paper-based meal vouchers, gift vouchers or discount coupons. During this closing event, we
will reveal the results of our research effort and showcase an End-to-End simulation of a potential future “NFC voucher scenario”.

This IBBT workshop wants to unite the views and concerns about living in the future society and the points of view concerning the possible intelligent ICT services. Can these visions support each other? How can we better align the needs and trends in our future society? The workshop starts off with a guest speaker illustrating new visions concerning living and care from a local policy perspective. Afterwards the recent achievements of the IBBT - TranseCare project and the IBBT - Deus project will be

30 March 2010 – Closing event NextGenITS @ IBBT, Ghent
Are you working on mobility, transport or road safety? Then, this closing event is very relevant to you. Over the past 2 years, several prominent Belgian players have cooperated with on researching and developing demonstrations to show the usability and global state-of-the-art in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). The results of the project will be demonstrated and it will advise in political and social important aspects such as traffic safety, road-tolling, etc.
